Day of the Dead (and Book Signing Events this Weekend)

Happy Day of the Dead! Every year, I find myself moved by this joyful two-day celebration of our ancestors, and it’s in that spirit that I share a photo of my parents back in their hipster days.  According to my Eastern practitioner friends, autumn is also a season of melancholy. So if you’re feeling a layer of melancholy as you traverse these sunny fall days, please know you’re not alone. The seasons have shifted, and many of us are starting to go inward. Fall and winter, perhaps not so surprisingly, are when folks tend to reach out to me around The Secret Life of Grief. Hearing how much my book has helped someone always makes my day. On that note, I wanted to let you know I”ll be selling/signing copies of The Secret Life of Grief: A Memoir at two events this weekend: The […]

Talking about Grief, Loss, Writing and Meditation on the Untangle Podcast

Hi everyone! I’m honored to be this week’s guest on the wonderful Untangle podcast from the fabulous folks at Meditation Studio App. Here’s the episode–we dive into the topics of grief and loss as I talk about how writing and meditation helped me chart my way forward after my mother’s death (as many of you already know from reading The Secret Life of Grief). I’d love to hear your thoughts, if you choose to listen. And of course, I’d be very thankful if you shared this with anyone who might benefit! Much love! Tanja

Healing After Grief and Loss

Most of us are so busy and overwhelmed that we barely have time to acknowledge the losses from big changes in our life, whether that’s the death of a loved one, a move or divorce, the end of a job or friendship, or any other major life transition. But when we don’t acknowledge those losses, we get stuck. Buried, unacknowledged emotions eat up our energy and deplete us, clouding who we are and what we’re capable of. Worse, they tend to surface when we least expect it, often to disastrous results.   Don’t let your unacknowledged losses waylay you any longer. This year, give yourself the gift of time and space so that you can start moving forward again. Because once we’re able to come to terms with our story, we get to rewrite the ending.   During this guided, 5-week online course […]

Writes of Passage: Finding Space, Support, Clarity and Healing through Writing

Most of us are so busy and overwhelmed that we barely have time to acknowledge the big events in our lives, much less integrate them. A few decades ago, we moved through life with support from our community. These days, many of us are feeling disconnected on deep level, despite being more technologically connected than ever. When we don’t have the time or space to acknowledge the events that shape us, it’s normal to feel lost, trapped or overwhelmed, without the support and resources we need to move into the next chapter of our lives.   Writing can provide that support and space, as well as serve as a resource to help us move through life-changing events in a meaningful and authentic way. In addition to connecting us to our innermost wisdom, writing helps heal the stories of our lives as well as […]

Healing Through Writing

As we age, we find ourselves with more and more life events to reconcile, from the loss of loved ones to changing friendships and identities. Writing can help us process these events, start to heal and gain clarity as we find our way forward. What do we need to shed light on? What are we ready to release? Where are we ready to move forward? You don’t have to identify as “a writer” to join this workshop.   9.28.17 & 10.5.17 Longmont Senior Services Center Longmont, CO   “Each of the videos has been helpful. I kept getting stuck trying to do it on my own. Thanks for helping me break it down into small manageable chunks so that I could finally follow through! I’m so excited by how much progress I’ve made.” –M.L.
